Phuket is one of the most popular tropical destinations in the world for several reasons. But there’s no doubt that the island’s main attraction would be its selection of beautiful and pristine beaches. Being the largest island in Thailand, Phuket is home to over 40 beaches. From family-friendly beaches, serene coastlines, to exciting party shores, here are our picks for the best beaches in Phuket.

1. Patong Beach

Without a doubt the most popular beach on the island, Patong is well-known for its bustling and exciting atmosphere. During the day, vacationers can enjoy a wide array of beach activities such as jet skiing and riding banana boats. As the sun sets, Patong Beach is transformed into a vibrant party hub.

It is home to the famous Bangla Road where young partygoers gather to revel in the best nightclubs and bars on the island. Patong is often busy and has huge crowds but no Phuket holiday is ever complete without experiencing all the fun and excitement that Patong has to offer.

2. Kamala Beach

While this beach strip is only a short drive away from the lively Patong Beach, Kamala presents a totally different atmosphere from its popular neighbor. This beach offers a more relaxed and laid-back vibe where travelers can comfortably lounge by the beach without all the noise and hubbub.

It is far less crowded, and its waters are calmer and shallower, making it ideal for couples on romantic retreats and families traveling with kids. Water activities are available during peak seasons, but its serene atmosphere is truly what makes Kamala so charming.

3. Surin Beach

Just like most beaches in Phuket, Surin boasts of clear turquoise waters and soft white sand. The beach itself is picture-perfect and the horizon beyond is just as breathtaking. What sets Surin apart is its sophisticated locale where travelers can enjoy a glamorous holiday in a tropical paradise.

Surin is along what is known as ‘Millionaire’s Row,’ Phuket’s most luxurious address. This is where lavish vacationers can find Phuket’s vacation villas and luxury resorts, as well as high-end bars and restaurants. Since it caters to only the select few, Surin beach provides a luxurious sense of exclusivity and isolation from Phuket’s big crowds.

4. Naithon Beach

When all you want is a simple and relaxing beach vacation, a quiet and enjoyable swim, and a laid-back atmosphere, then Naithon beach is definitely worth a visit. This beach is a magnificent stretch of soft sand and clear waters, shaded by stately trees that provide vacationers with a natural shade as they lounge by the beach.

Compared to Phuket’s more popular beaches, Naithon doesn’t offer as many entertainment and leisure options. This is why this beach is a good choice for those who want to enjoy an unspoiled beach strip and bask in nature’s raw beauty and relaxing serenity.

5. Banana Beach

Phuket’s hidden gem, Banana Beach is a pristine beach that still enjoys a laid-back and quiet atmosphere. It is definitely one of Phuket’s most beautiful beaches but since it’s relatively isolated and not as accessible, it is not as crowded and busy as other beaches.

Getting to Banana Beach requires a short trek through the forest. It takes a bit more effort to reach this beach but it is definitely worth it.

6. Bangtao Beach

Stretching up to 6 kilometers long, Bangtao Beach is one of the longest beaches on the island. Since it’s one of the biggest beaches, there’s a lot of things to see and enjoy in Bangtao.

Travelers vacationing in this area are spoiled for choice when it comes to dining, shopping, and leisure options. Since it has something to offer to everybody, Bangtao is considered as one of the most family-friendly beaches in Phuket

7. Layan Beach

On the northern end of the bustling and dynamic Bangtao is Layan Beach, perhaps one of the most tranquil beaches of Phuket. There aren’t many tourists in this area which makes it a perfect relaxing spot. Layan also enjoys calm waters and it is fringed by tall pine trees that offer vacationers a cooling shade while they lie on the sand.

Layan beach is frequently visited by locals and expats because of its relatively untouched natural beauty. Since it’s close to Bangtao, it offers relaxing isolation from the crowds while also having endless leisure options just nearby.

8. Freedom Beach

Freedom Beach is an unspoiled and tranquil strip in the vibrant and energetic Patong area. Despite being located in Phuket’s busiest address, this beach has maintained its pristine beauty because it actually takes a lot more effort to reach this area.

To get to Freedom Beach, one can either trek through the jungle or ride a boat going there. Since there are very few people who come here, this beach exudes raw and untouched natural beauty, offers breathtaking sceneries, and enjoys a peaceful atmosphere.

9. Kata Beach

Another one of Phuket’s bigger beach areas, Kata Beach stretches around 1.5 kilometers long. It is big enough to not feel cramped and too crowded despite the many tourists who flock to this area to enjoy the beach.

Kata Beach offers many water activities that you can enjoy. There’s also a great selection of restaurants and shopping areas. This beach is a great choice for families who want an exciting atmosphere without the rather rowdy nightlife scene.

10. Kata Noi Beach

Kata Noi is the smaller and less frequented neighbor of Kata Beach. This area has a more private feel to it, with only a few nearby resorts and restaurants that are usually high-end. The atmosphere too is more laid-back and presents the true meaning of relaxed island living.

Kata Noi’s tranquil ambiance makes it an ideal spot for vacationers who simply want to relax and lounge amidst gorgeous surroundings but if you want a bit more excitement, you can also enjoy fun activities here such as snorkeling and surfing.
